Happy Valentine’s Day. Is love in the air for you? It is for us… normally we just make a simple meal and spend time together. Oh, and make homemade Valentine’s Day cards… not those store bought Hallmark ones! Ever since I started making my own cards a few years back I refused to purchase a card thus forcing Mr. Woodsy to learn how to use my die-cutting machine!
Valentine’s Day started early at our house. Mr. Woodsy brought home roses for me yesterday afternoon… of course I had to put them in my frosted Valentine’s Day vase I made last year.
He also bought us tickets to see Billy Elliot tonight! I’d love to say he surprised me and is such a romantic, but that would not be accurate. Romantic–yes! Surprises–not so much.
I’m super excited and its such a nice splurge since we almost always stay in for Valentine’s Day. We are still cooking dinner in; caprese salad and shrimp cocktail to start with followed by fillet mignon, lobster, cauliflower and leek puree, and miniature tiramisu’s for dessert. We had the cauliflower and leek puree last Valentine’s day and I’ve dubbed it as a special occasions side dish.
Here is the card that Mr. Woodsy made me this year…
He even decorated the back!
And here is a peak of the inside… he loves using the die-cutting machine!
Here is the card I gave him this year…
I’ve never added a ruffled ribbon on to a card before. I simply ruffled it as I sewed, and then I attached a printed “love” ribbon over top and sewed it to each of the sides.
And here is a sneak peak inside my card… notice that the heart on the left does not have thread in it (I ran out of bobbin thread), and miraculously the paper still adhered to the card!
And here are a few cards I made for family members…
Simply cut out hearts freehand and stitch them with your sewing machine. Simple yet big impact!
Do you make your own cards or do you buy your Valentine’s Day cards?
