Today, we are taking a break from our Master Bedroom Revamp Projects and revealing a little side project we completed in less than a half day.
What goes best with a brand new outdoor living room? Cider of course!
A few weeks ago Mr. Woodsy sent me a series of text messages asking if I wanted an outdoor furniture set. Upon reviewing a few photos I immediately said yes! It was a used set but with a little TLC I knew we could make it our own and make it better! The going price tag was $150–which for patio furniture is a steal since the stuff is seriously as expensive if not more expensive than indoor furniture. A week or two passed by and Mr. Woodsy was asked to do a few handy jobs for the person who was selling the used patio set. He agreed to do it and in return instead of selling us their set they traded Mr. Woodsy’s work for the set! Win-Win in our book. We are all about the bartering here.
It was a late Sunday afternoon after a long day of painting and arguing about the nightstands when we went to pick up the furniture. I didn’t have any intentions in setting it up that day, but I’m pretty sure Mr. Woodsy did! On our way back we stopped by Lowes to pick up our bedroom fan and in return I some how convinced Mr. Woodsy to pick up a fan for our new outdoor living room. My way of convincing him was “instead of spending $400 on one fan we can get 2 fans for $400“. I know this was not in his plans but it was in mine! So, we walked out of Lowes with 2 fans and headed next door to WalMart where we picked up an outdoor area rug I had spotted earlier in the week. I knew they were on clearance and I wasn’t sure if their would be any left, but I wanted a rug for our new living space. Once we had the rug we were off to go transform our space.
The first thing we did was tackle our messy unorganized back patio.
Take a look at all the potted plants on our teeny tiny covered patio. And that inviting chair. Wooeee!
Our grill also took up a quarter of our patio. Ok, maybe I’m exaggerating but it felt like it took up a crazy amount of room on our patio.
Once we moved everything off the covered patio Mr. Woodsy started working on installing the new fan.
I got the glorious job of scrubbing down the new furniture. I honestly think that the people had never cleaned their furniture which I don’t think most people do so I guess that’s normal. In case you ever want to clean your patio furniture I used warm water and a little soap–nothing crazy here. Oh, and the best scrub brush ever!
With just a little elbow grease and hard work we had a new outdoor living room. We were a little disappointed that the matching coffee table to the set didn’t fit in our space, but opted to use a little wood table that we found on the curb in our neighborhood. I currently use it from time to time for food photography and before that it looked to be a little kids table (the chairs and tattered umbrella had been at the curb with it). One day I think we will eventually re-stain the wood and paint the metal legs a new color. For now, it works! Oh, and the cushions definitely need to be replaced–waiting for good “after summer sales”.
After all the hard work of putting together our new outdoor living space we were finally able to sit back and relax and enjoy Anheuser-Busch’s Michelob ULTRA newest addition; Michelob ULTRA Light Cider. A naturally sweetened and gluten-free cider made from crisp hand-picked apples. For those of you who don’t know, Mr. Woodsy is
kind of a beer conisour. He has memberships to beer bar clubs in town, subscribes to beer magazines, and home brews. Because of that, I too am always trying new beers whether its a lager or a cider. A cider is gluten-free which is a great alternative for those who have a gluten allergy (which thankfully we do not). Ciders are made with all natural ingredients like fruit opposed to how traditional beer is generally made using barley and hops.
Typically, when we go to beer bars I tend to always gravitate toward the ciders. I think with the uproar and rage with the craft beer industry ever growing in the United States ciders are becoming much more popular. Ciders were once known as either too heavy or too sweet or both and typically a seasonal beverage served during the fall and winter months.
The brand new Michelob ULTRA Light Cider is perfect year round and especially here in Florida. It’s taste is crisp, light, and refreshing. Everything you look for on a hot summer’s day and after a hard day of DIY work! Because this is a light cider it makes for a great alternative to drinking white wine and champagne.
Michelob ULTRA Light Cider has 1/3 less calories than an average of the leading regular hard ciders, 120 calories per serving in light hard cider vs. 180 calories per serving in an average of the leading hard ciders. Mr. Woodsy who typically doesn’t care for ciders because they are so heavy and sweet, really enjoyed this cider!
Michelob ULTRA Light Cider can be enjoyed straight or over ice – perfect for a warm summer day. Here we are–being us and enjoying our outdoor living room and cider beers!
Since the Michelob ULTRA Light cider is still relatively new you will have to keep your eyes peeled for the product. I found it at Total Wine & More here in Orlando, Florida. At the time–none of our local grocery markets were carrying the beer yet. The cider is available nationwide excluding Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Oklahoma. For more information you can visit Michelob’s site.
Since creating this new outdoor space we have spent countless nights sitting on our back patio–eating dinner, drinking cider, and entertaining friends and family. Everyone who has come over has fallen in love with our new little oasis. Their are a few decorating aspects to the space that we have yet to address. Like the blank wall above the love seat, and Mr. Woodsy really wants me to make outdoor curtains.I would love to see multiple large lanterns in the corner where Mr. Woodsy’s flip-flops are and to ditch some of our herbs (we have a garden for that) and have more colorful flowers). So, I’m sure over time we will work on that.
So, how much did everything cost?
Fan: $199.00 at Lowes
Furniture: Free *because Mr. Woodsy traded work for the furniture
Rug: $49 from WalMart (on clearance)
Potted plants & Flag: already owned
