Ring in the New Year with my easy-to-make DIY 2019 New Year’s Eve Glasses using the Cricut Maker, shimmer card-stock, and adhesive!
I can’t get over the fact that this year is about to come to a close. 2018 flew by for us and I can only imagine 2019 will do the same. Although, I’m still crafting up fun Christmas activities and gifts I have started working on a few fun New Year’s Eve crafts. I’m so excited to share with you my DIY 2019 New Year’s Eve Glasses! I worked on this prototype for over a few days perfecting the size, shape, length, etc.
I originally wanted to cut these glasses using chipboard; however, after I did a test run I realized it wasn’t realistic to wait 55 minutes for one pair of glasses to be done. So, that’s when I went to my paper shelf and found my Cricut Shimmer Paper. I knew going this route would not only save time but give my glasses the exact look I was hoping to achieve! I made 4 of these glasses in under an hours time. Had I not been interrupted by kids I probably could have made 6-8 of these glasses in an hours time.
I went back and forth with my husband, Jon, about these glasses. Yes, they are festive for the New Year! No, they are not the most functional glasses. You can see out of them, but absolutely do not drive in these or do anything that might harm your life ((my husband made me write that line))!
For this project, I used my Cricut Maker. It cuts the most materials! Cricut Maker cuts hundreds of materials materials quickly and accurately, from the most delicate paper and fabric to matboard and leather. Another thing I tell my friends who are interested in either buying a Cricut or switching is the Easy-to-learn Design Space® software. It’s fully loaded with advanced features including Offline Mode, Print Then Cut, and SnapMat™. For iOS, Android™, Windows®, and Mac®. It also gives you the flexibility to upload your own designs. Use your own images and fonts for free in a variety of standard file formats.
I went the “old school” route with these glasses and used my Scoring Stylus; however, if you own a Cricut Scoring Wheel this will be the time to use it! It’s new and does amazing scoring lines. (pictured is the traditional “Scoring Stylus”.
Scoring Wheel and Double Scoring Wheel: “Breaks creative barriers with extra-deep, razor-sharp score lines. Scoring Wheel tools take on everything from origami paper to corrugated cardboard and coated posterboard, giving every crease-and-fold project a flawless finish with no cracks.”

Next, cut the stars in a different color paper.
This is what all the pieces look like.
Next, grab double-sided tape (or glue-dots or even hot glue) and apply a little on the arrow.
Then, fold it over so you see the color and you’ve secure the glasses arm.
Next, add on one 3-dimensional dot on the back of a star. Then apply to the corner of each the “2” and “9”.
Repeat until you have as many you as you need for your New Year’s celebration!
Love all the different color combos you can do with these glasses!
Then, I had my super cute model try on the glasses! These glasses fit both adults and kids!
Then, I hopped in for a photo to document how we will be ringing in the new year!
I love how these glasses come out and hope that everyone gets to enjoy them as much as we will this New Year’s Eve.
