3M ScotchBlue™ Painters Tape Outdoor Painted Patio

I am proud to be a 3M sponsored blogger, and, as part of my responsibilities, I get the opportunity to evaluate new products from ScotchBlue™ Painter's Tape. Opinions are my own and additional product used in the project were selected by me. Two months ago, right before Katie was due to have the baby, ScotchBlue.com  reached out to us and asked us to create an outdoor DIY project for under $100. I was super excited since I’ve been chomping at the bit to paint our back patio floor. Katie … [Read more...]

Tips & Tricks on Installing Butcher Block Countertops

Last year, we revamped our kitchen. It wasn't in bad shape, it just wasn't what we liked. We kept the guts of the kitchen; the cabinets and appliances and removed the formica countertops, installed a new deep sink and amazing Moen MotionSence faucet, and tiled the backsplash. We also added some extra cabinet space. Today, I am sharing a few of the tips and tricks we found useful when we installed our butcher block countertops. Talk about pressure! One mess up and it could have been very … [Read more...]

Painting the Nursery

Do you like to paint? I don't mind it. I guess its a good thing since I fee like I paint a room in our house just about every month. Last year, at Haven I met the people at HomeRight and they shared the HomeRight® PaintStick EZ-Twist Paint Applicator with me. I'll be honest, I was skeptical at first, but I still wanted to give it a try. I never got to give it a try in 2013 and I figured the perfect project to try it on in 2014 was the nursery! After de-cluttering the nursery in just one … [Read more...]

Handmade Glitter Snowflake Wooden Ornament

Last day of the 12 days of Handmade Ornaments. I would like to say that they saved the best for last, but I know otherwise--the ornaments this year have all be awesome. I wanted to do the 12 days of ornaments this year because I feel like every year I miss out to show off my talent. I knew my ornament was going to be made out of wood, and I wanted our readers to realize that an ornament can be made out of anything your mind dreams up. I wanted to also show that making ornaments can be … [Read more...]

{Tutorial} Craft Room Cabinet

Today, I'm sharing the craft room cabinet that I built for Katie's craft room last winter. Yes, I just typed last winter. Since building her craft room she has quickly outgrown the space, so in an effort to help give her more storage I made her a cabinet using one sheet of PureBond® Hardwood Plywood! We love using PureBond® in our home. It's environmentally friendly and promotes healthy indoor air quality. You might remember that we used PureBond® for our Trumeau mirror last year. This post is … [Read more...]

How to Build a Raised Square Foot Garden

A few months ago, I helped my dad build a raised square foot garden. This project took a half day and the total cost of supplies was around $200. This is definitely an intermediate wood working project. It requires quite a few tools and knowledge on how to build. A raised square foot garden bed is ideal to keep animals out and it makes gardening easy on the back. We were inspired by these plans. Please know, that you do not need to use the wood we listed. If you don't prefer pressure treated … [Read more...]

From a mans view… Haven Conference

* Disclaimer - This is my first blog post, I'm usually the hands-on kinda of guy! Over a year ago Katie approached me with the idea of going to a DIY conference. I wasn't opposed to going, I actually thought it would be kinda of cool to meet a bunch of woodworkers and home DIY- ers. Their was a catch. It fell on our 4th wedding anniversary, I was like: "are you serious that you want to spend our anniversary at a conference and not laying on some tropical beach somewhere?" Katie had her … [Read more...]
