Brighten Up An Old Outdoor Lantern

Brighten Up An Old Outdoor Lantern

Back in June when we were working on revamping our patio I decided to take a little spray paint to an old lantern to brighten it up!  This was considered a free project since I had everything on hand. The only thing I had to do was use a little time and elbow grease! First things first, you'll need about an hour-ish (give or take) to complete this project. I purchased this lantern a year ago at HomeGoods in the clearance section. I always knew I wanted to do something with it but just wasn't … [Read more...]

For those that don't know Mr. Woodsy and I are heading off today for our "once in-a-lifetime" vacation that we've been planning for a very long time. We are going to Europe! Don't fret. While we are enjoying our vacation we've enlisted some of our favorite blogs and friends to share Fall and Halloween projects with our Sew Woodsy readers. Our first guest blogger for us is Brittany from Pretty Handy Girl. We met Brittany in real life at Haven this summer and instantly fell in love with her. … [Read more...]

Harvest Tea Light Blocks

Last year, I saw this brilliant idea on Just Between Friends to make your own tea light candle holders from a 4 x 4 post of wood. We made the 4 x 4 wood tea light holders last year before Thanksgiving but never had a chance to decoupage the words onto the blocks. This year, I took the same plain blocks we used as rustic wood tea light holders last year, and decoupaged words on to the blocks. This is a super simple project and it didn't cost us anything to make since we had all the supplies on … [Read more...]

4th of July Word Cloud {How to make}

I love the varieties of subway art that all the crafters in the world make; however, lately I've had very little time to make anything. I recently started using a very cool and free word cloud generator; Wordle.  I decided to give this free program a try in hopes I could make some cool word art for the Fourth of July. A lot of teachers use this program to make classroom decor or even assign projects to students. You can either type in words to create your word cloud or type in a URL. I … [Read more...]

{Tutorial} Yoga Skirt

A few years back I bought a cotton knit skirt from Old Navy called a "yoga skirt". I believe it's called a yoga skirt because (in my mind) the fabric is made from the same fabric you'd typically find yoga pants made of. For the past few years I have worn my black yoga skirt time-and-time again. Probably at least once a week, and a year or two ago I realized that the fold from the skirt could be pulled up and I could wear it as a strapless dress. With that being said I knew I could make one, and … [Read more...]

{Tutorial} Mouse Pad Makeover

Last year, Anngela, from Anngela's Pretty Little Things and I had a craft day. We typically like to meet up quarterly and work on a project together. One of the projects she worked on was revamping her mouse pad. It was a super simple project, and I've been wanting to make one ever since. I finally got around to making one this past weekend, and now I'm happy to report that I have a new fabulous mouse pad for my desk at work! I can't wait until we are done recovering our chair, so that I can use … [Read more...]

(Tutorial) Customized Magnetic Frame

Last week my Aunt  Millie turned 88. After her birthday last year she requested that no one buy her gifts, anymore. She has more than she will ever need and doesn't need any more materialistic things in her life. So, we bring her flowers or gift cards... because gift cards to restaurants are not materialistic *at least in my book. Mr. Woodsy, myself, and my parents drove up to Palm Coast (about a 2-1/2 hour drive) last Friday to celebrate Aunt Millie's birthday. I didn't want to just bring her … [Read more...]

{Mini Tutorial} Up-cycled Dress to Skirt

Many years ago (like 5+ years) I bought this Bitten dress. At the time it was Sarah Jessica Parkers hot new fashion line that had just came out. I was so excited--so excited that I only wore it ONCE after I purchased this dress. It has sat in my closet for years taking up valuable space. I cleaned out my closet a few months back and this was one of the items that I figured I could up-cycle.  I started by seam ripping the zipper out of the dress. It was a perfectly good zipper and I had … [Read more...]

Craft Lunch: Fabric Rosettes

It had been a few months since our last craft lunch at work. Being that I've been super busy and traveled half the month of March, Sarah, from While They Snooze organized last month's craft lunch! She had been itching to make some fabric rosettes. Our goal for craft lunch is to always pick a craft that has very little pieces and parts, inexpensive, and can be typically completed within our hour lunch break. A majority of the time it involves hot glue. We have a co-worker (and very dear friend of … [Read more...]
