Join Homes.com and their sister company ForRent.com, next week on February 21st for a twitter chat at 8pm EST. Kari from Newlyweds on a Budget will also be co-hosting! The topic will be about creative ways to save money! Typically, we would join in on the twitter chat, but instead of creative ways to save money we will be spending it! We are heading off on a short weekend cruise to the Bahamas to unplug and enjoy a little r&r.
In the meantime here are a few ways that we save money. Because everyone should know by now that when we aren’t working on DIY projects we are traveling. We have a healthy appetite for travel and because of that we are constantly saving every penny we earn to explore the world we live in.
Here are a few of our tips:
- Think about what you really need. Do you really need 500+ cable channels? Fun Fact: we only have basic cable and no DVR. Yes, some say we are crazy, but lets get real… we don’t watch a lot of television. If we do and we miss something we watch it online!
- We only eat lunch out once a week maxs! We bring our lunch just about every day and that adds up big!
- Stop buying snacks from the vending machine. If you buy it daily–go to the store and buy a 12 pack of soda to keep at your desk. You’ll save so much money and instead of paying the vending machine. Pay yourself a dollar a day. If you do that during one money you’ll save at minimum $20 in a month… times by 12 and you’ve just saved $240!
- Dedicate a specific cash dollar amount as “spending money” for yourself each week or bi-weekly! This has helped. I only give myself $20 per week in cash to spend on extra things. Whether that is lunch out, a new book, a piece of clothing, whatever it may be… its a great way to not spend like crazy each week.
So I’d love to hear what your tips are for saving money? Don’t forget Homes.com and ForRent.com would love for you to join them in their twitter chat on February 21st at 8pm EST.
