We are back from our babymoon and super refreshed. More on our babymoon in the next few weeks (hopefully next week, but I know how busy I get so I’m saying in the next few weeks)! A few weeks ago World Market approached me about a volunteer opportunity. I knew I wouldn’t have the time but my friend Sarah from While They Snooze jumped up to the plate and organized an amazing volunteering opportunity! She reached out to the Central Florida Children’s Home and asked if they needed a room revamped. They have been providing their services to the community for the past 40 years and solely run on donations and volunteers!
Think of extreme home makeover–that is what we decided to do. The home where the 15 foster children live has recently been revamped, but the office was in dire need of a makeover! Ripped chairs, one table, one working light and only one working bathroom. This is where all the potential foster parents meet with the owners to possibly foster a child! How can they sell their services with a sub-par office? So, that is the room we decided to makeover. Or well, I should say, the building!
As you can tell from the looks of the photos… this place needs help! And who better to help than DIY bloggers! 🙂
Christine from First Home Love Life, and Lauren from The Thinking Closet are also helping out on the project. We started our 2-day volunteer program yesterday. Yesterday, Christine had her husband and daughter over painting. And Wendy from H2o Bungalow even drove 2 hours from Tampa to paint with us! Jon also fixed the toilet that was broken so they now have 2 toilets, he made custom shelves for them that we will be hanging today, and he even replaced the broken window that had a bebe hole through it and a slight crack. That was a first for him, but he found it to be super easy–so stay tuned on a tutorial on how to fix a broken window! Oh and we painted, and painted, and painted some more. I can not wait to reveal the room and share a few DIY tutorials later this week! To say I’m sore (and everyone is sore) is an understatement… I can barely walk today, but its totally worth it. It just means I have to take it a bit easier today.
While we were away, Sarah and Christine went shopping at World Market. This is the inspiration board Sarah put together for the project!
And you might be wondering… what is this Share the Joy campaign?
