Last Friday, marked the first day summer. What better way to kick off summer than to refresh our back patio. Last year, we received a used set of patio furniture after Jon did some work for a friend. We loved the set and kept the cost minimal and never replaced the cushions that were given to us. Fast forward to present day and we were in desperate need of refreshing our patio for all the outdoor entertaining we do. We turned to our friends at World Market since we love everything they have at their store. We decided to get crazy and incorporate a very bright and cheerful color pallet into our back patio and outdoor furniture.
It took us over 2.5 hours to shop for everything and less than 30 minutes to set everything up! We set up our GoPro on the tripod and got to work. I can not tell you how much I love the video we created. Watch our video to see how we transformed our patio.
Our back patio is perfect for entertaining now. We often have our neighbor (and sometimes her dad, too) come over for drinks, appetizers, and even dinner! We installed a fan last year, and even on summer nights it can still be tolerable to sit outside and enjoy the Florida weather.
Of course no patio refresh couldn’t be complete without a few DIY projects. Over the course of the next week I’ll be sharing simple DIY project ideas that are sure to refresh any patio! LIke my faux dip-dyed pot pictured above.
Can anyone spy the bright blue lantern? Another DIY project I tackled… ahhh! I can’t wait to show the before and after on that one.
We weren’t sure about our new “rug” which is really a plastic-like mat. After living with it for over the past week or so we LOVE it! It dries 10 times faster than a traditional outdoor carpet, and since we live in Florida and it rains daily here that is a huge benefit for us!
We opted to recover our existing cushions on our chairs. The bottom covers fit perfectly and the top ones are a little big (not made for our set), but honestly, we just tucked in the excess fabric and you’d never know! We wanted a bright color that hopefully won’t get super dirty right away.
I’m also a little obsessed with lanterns. I ended up buying 7 lanterns for our patio. Something I’ve always wanted to do… In my mind I achieved the look I was going for. Best of all World Market has outdoor battery operated candles. They also have a timer setting, so every night around 8pm our candles all pop on!
Jon really wanted the stripes and I really wanted chevron. At the end of the day we compromised and decided to go with 2 bench cushions in strip and accent with chevron. I wasn’t sure if it was too much pattern. After putting it all together I love the combo! Best of all the green lumbar pillows on our other chairs go really well with the stripes as well. So we can mix and match if we get tired with either of the patterns!
I am so proud of our patio now. I want to have everyone over for drinks and appetizers!
