Remember, the time that we decided to make our headboard? And tuft it… because we are crazy like that!??!?! Well, we did it again. Except this time its way more detailed and we weren’t creating the headboard from scratch. We partnered up with our friends over at Homes.com to share how anyone can tuft and upholster an ornate headboard.
Our friends, told us last month about a headboard they scored at a garage sale. They showed us the picture and asked if knew how reupholster it? I showed it to Jon and after a little consultation we agreed to the project. They bought the headboard and figured it wouldn’t get done for a year or two since they were just about to give birth to their baby girl. I promised them they would have the headboard back before she gave birth–and that is exactly what we did! Of course they were on the hunt for the perfect fabric and tufting buttons.
Watch the video we created that shows just how easy it is for anyone to tuft & upholster an ornate headboard.
Jon is amazing when it comes to reupholstery projects. I would like to think this is because of his keene eye for detail. And also the fact that he will obsess on something being just perfect for hours on end. He spent a few hours pulling apart the old headboard.
He pulled out all the old buttons, strings, staples, and old fabric. Although we did keep the first layer of fabric on to keep the foam in tact.
Pile of nasty old buttons… we were so glad to see them gone!
We showed just how easy it is to re-cover buttons on the video! It does take some time and for the purpose of the project we spent a night or two watching tv on the couch and recovering buttons!
Here it is… in all its glory. I love the color of the fabric! Our friends were blown away by how it turned out. They do plan to paint the frame, they just have no idea what color. And of course a week after we delivered their new headboard they delivered their baby!

Thanks Christine! You can always come over and get a consultation… not sure about doing it for you. You would be surprised at how easy reupholstery projects are (just time consuming)!
