I’m so excited to have my friend Leslie here today to share her super easy costume for Tippi Hedren from Alfred Hitchcock’s, The Birds. I know Leslie through food blogging–she is not a “craft blogger” and claims she doesn’t have a creative bone in her body, but I totally disagree!

Hi all, it’s Leslie from The Hungry Housewife. Katie asked me to do a little guest post when she saw my Halloween Costume on my Instagram page.

Let me preface this post by saying I have not ONE crafty bone in my body. I can cook and bake up a storm in the kitchen, but when it comes to getting creative and crafty, I fall short….way short.

I was at the Halloween store looking for a Halloween costume and they were all skanky. I’m just not feeling skanky in my old age. So I came home and googled scary old movies and I happend upon Alfred Hitchcocks’s, The Birds. I saw the photo of Tippi Hedren getting attacked by birds.

And viola, the costume was born.

I didn’t think to take any step by step photos along the way, but it is super easy to do.

    What I used….

    • 1 dress, purchased from The Salvation Army ($7.00)
    • 1 bottle of Rit Green Apple Dye ($5.00)
    • 1 blond wig ($15.00)
    • 1 cotton hair band ($1.00)
    • 8 small feathered crows from the Dollar Store ($8.00)
    • 1 large black feathered crow from the Party Store ($15.00)
    • Needle
    • Black Thread

Total cost of Purchased Items $51.00

The dress that I purchased was originally white, but to try to be as authentic as possible, so I dyed it green. Super simple, I just followed the directions on the Rit bottle.

I then sewed each bird onto the dress. Again Super simple. See my beautiful sewing job? Told you I was crafty!

Next, I sewed a bird onto the cotton head band.

I finished up the costume look with some 50’s/60’s inspired makeup….Red Lipstick and a Winged Eye.

See it’s REALLY easy to make this costume. If I can do it, anyone can do it.

Oh and when I got to the party, someone said, “Ohhhh, I saw that costume on Pinterest”
Seriously??? I thought I was a super genius in coming up with this costume on my own…..I hate Pinterest for bursting my bubble.
