I am making the effort to not spend a lot of money on craft supplies this year, and in doing so using more of the supplies I already own. I got this garland idea while cruising the Valentine aisle at Michaels. That is when I realized it was finally time for me to stop hoarding my scraps of ribbon and put them to good use!
I saw it and loved it, but didn’t want to spend $12.99 on a strand of garland. I also didn’t want it as busy as the one I had seen at Michaels. I originally was going to use a long strip of ribbon and tie the ribbon onto it, but then later decided to splurge and spend $1 at the Dollar Store on a Valentine’s strand of garland. This is super easy to do and can make a big impact in the Valentine’s vignette you create!
Today, on the Bowdabra blog I’m sharing how I created the Spiky Bow & Bow Tie Stacked bows that are shown on the garland! Make sure you head over their and check out how to make these beautiful layered bows!

Decide how long each of your pieces of ribbon are going to be. I cut 8-10 inch strips of ribbon.
Begin tieing the ribbon in even spaces on your dollar store garland.
Once you’ve used up all your ribbon or until you are satisfied with how it looks your done!
Hang your garland in its desired location. For good measure I draped last years paper heart garland over it.
Take note: I attached the beautiful Valentine inspired Spiky Bow & Bow Tie Stacked bows to my garland!
Since I don’t have a mantel I hang my garland on my shelves above our tv and place my favorite “romantic” photos of Mr. Woodsy & I. This photo was taken almost 5 years ago during our engagement photo shoot. Crazy how quickly time passes us by!

I was inspired by the same garland at michael’s. However… it was 19.99, here in Canada!
I really should make a garland for my mantel…maybe I will work on that today. Yours turned out really cute!
Thanks! It’s super easy and takes no time at all and relatively no money!
LOVE this garland! I hope you will link up to my I Heart Projects Party!

Thanks for the invite! I’ll go link up now!
I like your better than the Michaels one. I love the dangling hearts. Well done!
Why thank you! The dangling hearts are just paper sewn together through a sewing machine! I made them last year–super easy!
So pretty Katie! I love the final pictures they just look amazing!
Thank you!
love this!! I must try this soon!
Your garland is darling! I’ve made fabric and ribbon scrap garlands before (I call them ragamuffin garlands!) but I’ve never included tinsel garland before. I am so going to try this sometime! Thanks for sharing!
Katie, this is adorable! Sharing everywhere…
Thanks!
Super cute! I love it all put together with the garland from the Dollar Store. Clever!! Where did you get that wooden LOVE thing? So cute!
Thanks, Eva! Mr. Woodsy made the LOVE sign;
I totally love this garland! I would never have thought to use tinsel, probably b/c I usually dislike the stuff but seeing how yours has turned out I am going to eat my words…to the point of having a go at making one myself!
Awe, shucks… Thanks! I am not a fan of the tinsel garland either, but when you “jazz” it up you can really make it look so much more desirable to the eye!
The garland is adorable. Please link it up to my Show It Off Thursdays party at:

Thanks so much!! Linda
Really cute!
